Summertime

Mon dieu, I haven't posted on here forever.
Hello again.
Sorry about the wait; I've just been so caught up with school and whatnot that summer is kind of at the point where things like this are just forgotten about.
So, to start off this summer, I'll tell you about my latest obsession: lemonade.
Just the thought of it brings me back to when I was eight and made as much lemonade as possible, starting with powdered stuff to homemade cherry limeade. I don't know why but it has always been a favorite of mine. Another recent obsession of mine is ice pops. They're healthy (if you want them to be!), refreshing, and also give that good summer memory when you stopped for the ice cream truck to get an Otter pop (but without all the sugary syrups).
I'm working on a recipe for lemonade right now; I'll have it up as soon as possible. And don't think it's just about sugar and water.

My favorite food website is foodgawker.com. It has everything, including lemon raspberry muffins, homemade Klondike bars, and even ratatoullie! It's a website where anyone can post recipes to; whether from their blog or from a website they find, it's all 100% good (and mostly good for you, too!). My favorite recipe from there is the lavender lemonade. It's super tart, but refreshing in that good-weird kinda way with just the slightest aftertaste of lavender. It's also served best when you freeze it in ice pop molds and eat it after you're super thirsty or after a run.

Enjoy your summer! Make the most out of your days off!
13 Tips For Living a More Simple Life
• Listen to music.

• Enjoy your days off as much as you can.

• Look in your kitchen and find as many fruits possible. Blend them up into a smoothie, put them in ice pop molds, and freeze.

• Read a classic. (And by classic, I don't mean Twilight or The Hunger Games.)

• Climb a tree.

• Be a kid! Slide down a slide, jump on a trampoline, make a sandcastle.

• Do a cartwheel in the sand on the beach.

• Before bed, drink a different cup of tea every night.

• Keep a notebook with you at all times and record funny things or inspiring quotes to look at in times of need.

•Write a letter to an old friend. (An actual letter, not an email!)

• Buy a musical instrument.

• Take a bubble bath.

• Enjoy life. Make changes. Don't be afraid to do things differently, even if your peers don't want to.

Ukulele? Simple as that.

If you play the ukulele, you'll understand. The uke is just a simply beautiful instrument to hear and what many don't know is that it calms you down when you play as well. Having a bad day? Pick up your ukulele. I have a Kohala Mahogany Soprano that I purchased about four months ago and, believe it or not, I played several songs by the end of the day without any experience whatsoever.
They make you feel happy inside, and all you want to do is smile. Here, try this.

Some info before you know: Pointer finger= first finger
                                              Middle finger=second finger
                                              Ring finger= third finger
                                              Pinky=fourth finger
Definitions:
Fret=metal bar to separate each note.
Chord= notes put together to create a sound that all fits
Neck= the long part with the frets on it.
Body= the hollow part with the hole and strings.
Tuning pegs= knobs you turn to tune your uke

The ukulele is such a small, portable and wonderful travel companion. Whether you play it by ear, play it at home, or play it in the park, it's such a beautiful instrument that brings a smile to anyone's face.

Now, not many bands feature the ukulele. My favorite band just happens to have the main singer playing the ukulele. This band from New Mexico has inspired me to write songs and play many songs on the trumpet and ukulele. The band is called "Beirut". My favorite song by them is Postcards from Italy (which I just figured out on ukulele just a few days ago!) because it's so unique and different, but catchy as well.

And you know, with all the dubstep and rap these days it's hard to find really good old fashioned music that you tap your toes to. But as you know, this never appears on the radio, so playing ukulele has really helped me escape from the radio and play whatever I want to hear.

Mango Lassi Popsicles

FACT: Pictures and stories aren't the only ones to have an impact on this blog! Recipes are a HUGE part of living simply.

Mango Lassi Popsicles
These pops are absolutely a favorite! Creamy and fruity, this refreshing sweet is a must-have during summer. But they're so good, I'd say year round!

Ingredients:
1 large mango
1/4 cup orange juice
1 1/2 cups vanilla or plain yogurt
3 tbsp. sugar

Directions: Peel the mango and take out the pit; discard pit. Puree mango and orange juice in a food processor or blender. In a medium-large bowl, stir the yogurt until smooth and creamy. Stir in the sugar. Then add the mango mixture. Stir until smooth. Freeze in popsicle molds for 3-8 hours.
Enjoy your Mango Lassi Pops!
